The Arts
The Arts curriculum at Our Lady Help of Christians incorporates both the Visual Arts and the Performing Arts.
Visual Arts
Visual Arts at Our Lady Help of Christians focuses on the exploration and development of skills and techniques from Foundation to Year 6.
Visual Art is organised into two dimensions:
- Creating and Making
- Exploring and Responding.
Throughout the school year our students experience art by learning about various contemporary and bygone artists and their inspiration to create.
The Visual Arts program is organised into six broad areas, where different mediums (materials) are used:
- Painting
- Drawing
- Clay Modelling
- Printmaking
- Textiles
- Construction
All students spend one session in our Visual Arts studio each week. Learning experiences in Visual Art are integrated with the learning in the classroom eg; Inquiry, Religion, Maths. Our students have the opportunity to display their work in the studio, in classrooms, in common areas and take their art pieces home.
Small group projects continue to create multimedia art pieces for showcasing with the school and wider community. Every three years our students’ art pieces are collated and displayed as part of Our Lady Help of Christians Art Show in our Mercy Performing Arts Centre. Artwork has also been shared to celebrate Our Lady Help of Christians Feast Days and to celebrate Catholic Education Week .
