Physical education
At Our Lady Help of Christian’s Primary School all students participate in a one hour physical education lesson per week taught by a specialist PE teacher.
The physical education curriculum follows the Victorian Curriculum and is focused on the Movement and Physical Activity section of the curriculum. The Personal, Social and Community Health part of the curriculum is covered by classroom teachers.
Each physical education lesson includes;
Children also learn team sports such as football, AFL, netball, badminton, softball or cricket with modified rules and equipment to ensure all children can achieve success.
Students are encouraged to represent the school in sports such as cross country running, athletics, netball, football, AFL and cricket.
All students at Our Lady Help of Christian’s participate in a swimming program facilitated by Swim and Survive.
Foundation students are given the opportunity to participate in a Perceptual Motor Program. This is a small group rotation lesson where children get extra support in developing their coordination, gross and fine motor skills, ball skills and skipping.
The government ‘Sporting Schools’ funding also allows us to employ specialist coaches in a variety of sports and enables us to purchase sporting equipment.
Our Lady Help of Christians School has an indoor gym as well as outdoor basketball courts and an oval. This allows the children to participate in physical education in all weather conditions.

- a fitness component which may involve skipping, running, body weight exercises and active games.
- skill elements which may focus on gross motor skills, coordination, ball skills, game tactics, athletics or physical skills such as hopping, jumping, running or skipping.
